11/20/2019- Menominee’s downtown district will be decked out in holiday fashion this weekend. The city’s annual Holiday Open House run Friday through Sunday, with extended hours and specials from downtown retailers, horse drawn carriage rides, caroling, and a chance to meet Santa himself. Brian Helfert is with the Menominee Downtown Business Association and says it all kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday evening with a parade, tree lighting, and other special events at Marina Park.
“Some time during the program, the tree is lit and that symbolizes the start of the holiday season- at least for downtown Menominee, anyway. Along with the drawing for next year’s junior grand marshal for the parade, there’s also the drawing for what’s called the ‘First Gift of Christmas’.”
The Menominee Old World Christmas Market will run in conjunction with these other events on 1st Street Friday and Saturday. Organizer Brenda Quaak says more than two dozen vendors will offer everything from artwork to handcrafted items to specialty food and drinks.
