08/03/2020- Even with some modifications in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, organizers of the Joey Shepro Memorial Doublehanded Race continue their mission to support children suffering from serious illness. This year’s sailboat race takes place August 15th at the M&M Yacht Club in Menominee. Joey Shepro, who had a passion and a talent for sailing, died in 1995 from an inoperable brain tumor, but was the beneficiary of Make-a-Wish Michigan, which his father and event co-organizer Joe Shepro Sr. said had an incredible impact on Joey’s short life and their entire family. Now, entering its 26th year, Shepro says the local race has donated tens of thousands of dollars to that very same organization.

One major change this year because of the coronavirus is the elimination of the typical pre-race celebration on the night of the 14th. Shepro says instead they’re hosting an online auction, which has already gone live, to collect additional funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

More information about the 26th annual Joey Shepro Memorial Race, including links to register to compete and find the online auction benefiting Make-a-Wish Michigan is available on the M&M Yacht Club website- mmyc.org.
