Two individuals have already stepped into the race to fill the vacant state Assembly seat for Wisconsin’s 89th District. Debbie Jacques of Green Bay and Mike Kunesh of Marinette have each announced their candidacy for the post, which former Representative John Nygren of Marinette stepped down from earlier this month. Jacques is small business owner in Brown County and says the issues critical to both her and constituents are examining election integrity, supporting small businesses, reopening schools, and protecting natural resources. Kunesh has owned Place Perfect Realty in Marinette and Green Bay since 1999. He has also served on the boards of numerous local and regional agencies and organizations and says his priorities include rebuilding the economy, addressing discrepancies in tax structures, examining other concerns including clean water, broadband expansion, and affordable housing. Both candidates are running on the Republican ticket, which would force a primary election in February.
