04/05/2019- Food pantries serve about 2400 adults and children monthly in the M&M Area, so while the need for food assistance locally is a prevalent one, the awareness of the issue may not be as widespread. That’s something organizers of the M&M Area Empty Bowls Fundraiser are looking to change. Their ninth annual event will be held Tuesday, April 9th at the Best Western in Marinette. Marcus Oksa is on the organizing board and says guests will enjoy a dinner of soup and bread and can then take home a hand-crafted bowl created by area students as a reminder of food insecurity worldwide and right here at home.
All of the money raised will be distributed to local food pantries. Oksa says the Empty Bowls Fundraiser has raised about $15000 in total and their partnership with the Tri-City Area United Way is helping them to reach even more families in need.
Tickets for the event are $15 apiece. They can be purchased in advance at the Tri-City Area United Way or at the door and guests are also asked to bring a non-perishable food donation. The Empty Bowls Fundraiser begins at 5:00 PM.
