Currently, about six-hundred thousand Wisconsinites lack access to wired broadband services where they live – and over one-hundred seventy thousand lack access to any wired internet providers. AARP Wisconsin’s Director of State Issue Advocacy, Helen Marks Dicks says, “28 percent of our world’s population do not have access to broadband.”
Marks says, “it became a major issue to make sure that everyone in Wisconsin has access to reliable, affordable broadband.”
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers budget has included provisions to expand broadband infrastructure, and to subsidize monthly subscription fees for low-income families. But there is no guarantee that this provision will be part of the final budget that must be first be approved by the legislature, and then signed into law by the Governor. If you would like to keep broadband expansion in the budget, you are urged to contact your state legislatures.
