12/07/2018- It’s good news for Marinette County hunters concerned about the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease. DNR Wildlife Biologist Ben Olson says more than 160 deer samples have been taken since the first case of CWD was discovered in the county earlier this year and so far, none of those of those tests have come back positive. Most of the deer sampled have been hunter-submissions through the DNR’s self-service kiosks located throughout the county or at DNR service stations. Olson says additional surveillance permits were issued to eight hunters to be used on county owned land within the DNR’s core survey area near Goodman, but those tags have yet to be filled. CWD was first detected in June in a two-year-old captive doe at Wild Rivers Whitetails in Goodman.
