Looking to start a new tradition this season? You can help light up Stephenson Island and bring a little holiday cheer to travelers on the Interstate Bridge this week. The City of Marinette’s annual Adopt a Tree program is back, encouraging families and businesses to deck the halls on Stephenson Island by selecting a tree to decorate for the season. Marinette’s Tourism and Marketing Director Melissa Ebsch says, in a year when so many other holiday events are being canceled due to COVID-19, this is one activity that allows families and businesses to celebrate the season safely.

Participants will need to supply their own lights, decorations, and heavy duty extension cords. Ebsch says residents are welcome to attend the official tree lighting ceremony in-person or online.

Bucket trucks will be on site to assist with stringing this Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 3:15 p.m. Participants are asked to stop at the Marinette Welcome Center and fill out an Adopt a Tree form before selecting and decorating a tree on the island. Ebsch says decorations typically remain up until mid-January.
