08/01/2019- Local agencies are joining forces for one big back-to-school event for families in need. The Salvation Army, St. Joseph Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and Menominee County Health and Human Services Department will host their first annual Back 2 School Bash on Thursday, August 15th at the Marinette High School. The event is co-sponsored by the M&M Chamber Leadership Class and serves as a community-wide backpack distribution day for families registered through these organizations. Jeanne Harper with St. Vincent de Paul says this collaborative effort will make much more than just school supplies available to families. In addition to resource information tables for parents, there will also be free immunizations, vision screenings, and haircuts available for students, as well as an obstacle course, face painting, and games. Harper says it’s about providing the entire family with the very best start possible to the new school year.
Families that are registered with the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, or Menominee County HHS to receive back to school assistance must schedule an appointment to attend the Back 2 School Bash. Donations for the event are still being accepted and can be dropped off at any of the participating organizations’ offices.
