State Representative John Nygren of Marinette and Jeff Mursau of Crivitz, along with their Assembly Republican colleagues, announced a plan to provide additional resources and staffing for District Attorney offices throughout Wisconsin:
Nygren noted the state recently provided short term funding for Marinette County to add another full-time Assistant District Attorney position. With the new proposal, Marinette County will now be able make that position permanent.
The proposal would bring 53 new Assistant District Attorney positions to 40 counties throughout Wisconsin.
Democrats say that still leaves many counties with staffing shortages, while Nygren believes progress takes time.
Republicans plan to include the new positions as an amendment to a bill the chamber will take up on Thursday.
