10/17/2018- For the first time in three years, Menominee’s Waterfront Festival turns a profit. Festival Director Nancy Douglas spoke to the City Council Monday about the 2018 event and said the festival’s current financials show a profit of around $3600, and that doesn’t include another $2000 in pending business donations She says Waterfront’s newest feature- the Dinghy Dash- was a big hit.
However, Council Member Frank Pohlmann says the financial report is misleading and doesn’t include the cost for insurance and the internal services provided by city staff. Douglas says the Festival Committee has never been expected to cover those expenses in the past.
Douglas asked that the City Council let the Waterfront Festival Planning Committee know by January if they intend to hold the festival again in 2019. She adds the festival committee is already considering some changes to the event including adding activities for teens, limiting the sale of alcohol to a single tent, and moving the feature band to Friday night.
