01/29/2019- A new bill being considered by the Michigan House would help protect pets and the people that come to their aid. House Bill 4092 introduced by Representative Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain grants criminal immunity to individuals who break a window to help a distressed animal locked in a hot or freezing cold car. The bill stipulates the individual must first call police and try to locate the owner of the car before taking action to free the pet inside. The proposal is being taken up by the House Judiciary Committee, where LaFave serves as vice chairman.
