09/21/2018- Marinette County businesses show a slight improvement in age verification practices for the sale of alcohol. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with Marinette County Public Health and the Health Youth Coalition to conduct alcohol compliance checks throughout the county. During these checks, 18-year-old volunteers attempted to purchase alcohol from licensed vendors using their state issued IDs. These transactions were monitored by law enforcement and of the forty-four businesses check, eight sold alcohol to the underage volunteers. This 18% failure rate is down marginally from the 19% failure rate in 2017. Those businesses that did sell alcohol to minors were cited in accordance with county ordinance.
