President Donald Trump “Major Disaster Declaration” for Michigan means more money will be available to aid in restoration efforts in flood-damaged Houghton, Gogebic, and Menominee Counties. While a specific dollar amount has yet to be announced, the declaration triggers the release of federal funds to help state, local, and tribal governments pay to repair the roads washed away in the Father’s Day floods. Some parts of Menominee County saw more than seven inches of rain during the storm, leaving several roads washed out or under water and opening up sinkholes.
