07/05/2019- The first show of the newest season of Theatre on the Bay debuts in just two weeks and tickets are going fast. Mamma Mia! takes the stage at the Herbert L Williams Theatre on the UW-Green Bay Marinette Campus beginning July 19th, kicking off the 53rd season of the local community theater. Director John Thornberry says it’s the first time this iconic musical has been brought to the area. The production is written around the songbook of the Swedish pop group Abba of the 70s and 80s and Thornberry says performing such a song- and dance-heavy piece meant the ToB cast had to make some changes to their typical rehearsal process.
Mamma Mia is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history and was adapted into a movie in 2008. Thornberry says that means attendees may bring their own preconceptions and expectations to the local production, but a new twist on the classic set may present the show in a different light.
Mamma Mia! runs July 19th through the 21st and 26th through the 28th. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30, while the Sunday performances begin at 2:00. Tickets are available through the UWGB- Marinette Campus theater web page or at the box office one hour before show time.
