In her annual State of the City address, Menominee Mayor, Jean Stegeman, began with the city’s good  financial condition…

The mayor highlighted a long list of projects completed during the year, including the lighthouse, Hattie Street Bridge, Lloyd House II, the Triangle Park Fountain among them.

But the mayor also took time to note some challenges the city had, including working to straighten out errors in property records, the $200,000 spent in repair sinkholes brought on by heavy rains last summer, and her frustration with the city not taking a stand on the Back 40 Mine…

Later in the meeting City Manager Tony Graff said he will soon have a proposed resolution on the mine for the council to consider.

In other business, the council approved accepting a $46,500 DNR passport grant to pay for upgrading the electrical system and installing a security camera at the city’s River Park Campground.
