Time is running short for Menominee County to get an Airport Layout Plan updated and into state officials. Commissioner Larry Schei says that plan needs to be in Lansing by May 3rd in order to be ready for the Michigan Aeronautics Commission meeting May 17th. At risk are funds granted in 2014 and being held in escrow to pay a large portion of repairs to the airport’s main runway. The consensus of the board is to get the airport’s newly hired engineering firm, Mead and Hunt in for a special county board meeting in the very near future so the Commissioners can get their questions answered.
That plan apparently will not include a recent proposal to release some parcels from the south end of the airport for economic development. Commission Larry Phelps said he was ready to move on.
In other action, the Board approved a two percent raise for elected officials, not including the County Commissioners. They also approved a new 4 year contract with Dr. Michael Zevitz to serve a 2nd 4 year term as County Medical Examiner.
