04/05/2018–The opening of the Marinette REC Center may not happen until June, three months later than the original date.

The Marinette City Council received an update on the project Wednesday night.

Dan Bay of Scherrer Construction says the netting in the soccer area will be installed towards the end of the month and the turf installed in the beginning of May. The surface of the tennis area is scheduled to be installed starting a week from Monday, but before that happens moisture in the concrete slab needs to be reduced.  It will take a month to install and cure the surface.  The final work will be finishing up the site improvements.

Bay said extras added to the project, and weather are some of the reasons for the delay in completing the REC Center.

Also still to be worked out is a plan to fix issues with the exterior wall panels.  Bay says he hopes to have the plan to the Mayor by the end of the week. He hopes the work on the panels would also be completed in early June.   Mayor Steve Genisot is looking at calling a special council meeting in the next week to approve the plan.
