The future of Marinette County tourism was discussed at length Thursday. Marinette County Association for Business and Industry and the county’s tourism alliance held a joint meeting to explore a proposed restructuring of MCABI to include county tourism promotion services. While Marinette County is currently pursuing a one-year contract with the City of Marinette for a joint Marketing and Tourism Director position, County Administrator John Lefebvre says an expansion of MCABI would benefit both the organization and the county in the long-term.
Two models for MCABI’s  expansion were presented, with estimated annual operating costs totaling around 750-thousand dollars. The lion’s share of that funding would likely come from the county.
Ultimately, MCABI and the tourism alliance agreed to form a committee composed of members from both sides to draft a proposal for the Marinette County board on aligning economic development with tourism development.
