11/02/2018- Dozens of people gathered at Marinette County’s Republican Party headquarters in Marinette last night to rally around Governor Scott Walker heading into next week’s election. Walker was joined in Marinette by Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Congressman Mike Gallagher and each spoke about what they say are misconceptions surrounding the coverage of preexisting medical conditions. The Governor is now proposing the state adopt the same federal language that guarantees insurance protection for those with pre-existing conditions. Walker says he’s not discouraged by polls that show him neck and neck with his challenger Tony Evers.
Walker claims Evers is open to raising the state’s gas tax by as much as a dollar per gallon to fund road projects. Walker says Wisconsin instead needs to focus less on where the dollars are coming from and more on where they’re going.
Walker’s visit to Marinette was the sixth stop on a statewide bus tour the Republican governor made throughout Wisconsin yesterday. The latest Marquette University Law School Poll shows Walker and Evers tied at 47% each among likely voters.
