Some Upper Peninsula Schools are closing today or taking other precautions in the wake of a “Tik Tok” challenge currently posted on social media. The challenge suggests numerous school shootings will take place today.
Police across the country have said they’ve received no evidence that the threats are credible, but school officials are taking heightened safety measures as a precaution in the wake of last month’s deadly shooting at Oxford High School near Detroit.
Stephenson, Carney Nadeau and North Central schools announced they will be closed. The Escanaba, Gladstone, Bark River-Harris, Rapid River, Mid Peninsula, and Hannahville Schools are all closed today.
Menominee Area Public Schools will be open, but all students will NOT be permitted to bring any type of backpack to school today. All students will enter their school building through one dedicated location. There will be no off campus at lunch for any high school students.
Marinette Area Public Schools will be open. In a letter to parents from the district; The district is urging parents to speak to their children about notifying authorities of a possible threat. The district has also notified the Marinette Police and they will be on high alert today.
