12/03/2018- The Lena man accused of firing shots at police officers during an hours-long standoff this spring will serve prison time. 51-year-old Thomas Benser was sentenced to 15 years initial confinement followed by another 15 years of extended supervision last week. He had been convicted on two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of second degree recklessly endangering safety after allegedly firing his gun at officers during a March 11th standoff that stemmed from an altercation with his then-girlfriend the day prior. When police responded to Benser’s home around 1:30 PM, Benser fired several shots in their direction. The Brown County SWAT team was called in and Benser was taken into custody just before midnight.
