10/-6/2020- The Marinette County woman charged for concealing her mother’s death for several months while cashing in on the dead woman’s income may avoid prison. Judge Jim Morrison stayed a 3-year prison term followed by another 3 years of extended supervision Monday in favor of 7 years’ probation for 61-year-old Paula Bergold. She pleaded no contest in July to hiding a corpse for allegedly placing 89-year-old Ruby Bergold’s dead body in a storage container and moving it to the basement of a Town of Peshtigo home in 2019. Paula Bergold told officers she found her mother dead in the home, but couldn’t bring herself to call police, however, she continued to collect her mother’s social security, stocks, and dividends. Bergold will have to meet all conditions of her probation or risks prison time.
