08/27/2020- The wheels are in motion to create a new mechanism to further economic development in Menominee County. Tuesday County Administrator Jason Carviou presented the Board of Commissioners with a resolution to establish a Brownfield Redevelopment Authority within the county. It’s a topic that’s previously been discussed at the committee level and would assist the County in restoring contaminated or blighted properties to a condition where they might again be considered for modern development.

Even if the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is ultimately established in Menominee County, each individual municipality will have to pass their own resolution opting in to that program. Carviou says the City of Menominee has already indicated they intend to do just that in anticipation of the planned expansion at Marinette Marine that will likely have development opportunities spilling across the border.

The Board agreed to move the resolution of intent to create a Menominee County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority ahead for consideration as an action item at their next meeting.
