12/27/2018- The Menominee County Board of Commissioners held their year end meeting at the MSU Extension Office is Stephenson last evening. The Commissioners tackled a light agenda as they headed to the new year.
A proposed 2% pay raise for the Clerk/Register of Deeds, Sheriff, Treasurer, and Prosecuting Attorney generated debate among the commissioners. Some felt that not all of the officials deserved the raise due to performance. Commissioner Steven Gromala understood the concerns raised about the prosecuting attorney’s job performance, but said others have already gotten their raises.
The Board voted to defeat the motion to hike the salaries by a 5-4 vote with Commissioners Meintz, Nelson, Hafeman, Schei, and Piche voting against the measure.
In other business, the board voted to approve a bid from Solander Electric of Stephenson to install a new generator at the Bagley Tower. They also approved a job description for a Veterans Service Officer. That position will be posted shortly with the hopes of having a person ready to bring to the board in January. Interviews for a new Emergency Services Coordinator will be held shortly. Several applicants have applied for the position.
Finally, the board said farewell to Commissioners Charlie Meintz and John Nelson. They were thanked by the public and other commissioners for their time and service.
