Better internet services could be coming to some of the most remote parts of Marinette County. County Administrator John Lefebvre explained to the Economic Development Committee Monday that Packerland Broadband is seeking a public-private partnership grant to expand its service to residents in portions of the county along the US Highway 141 corridor with poor or no existing broadband coverage.
Lefebvre says the county would need to make some financial commitment to the project, but Packerland and grant funding would cover the majority.
If Packerland is selected for the grant, work to expand broadband service could begin later this year. The Economic Development committee approved forwarding a recommendation to the full county board to enter into an agreement with Packerland Broadband to provide up to $60-thousand for broadband expansion.
