Eight new volunteers have now been appointed to watch over neglected and abused children in Menominee County, more than doubling the number of volunteers previously serving in the county’s Court Appointed Special Advocates program. The volunteers were sworn in this week after completing 30 hours of training. Volunteers will now be paired with one neglected or abused child or a sibling set to advocate for them and ensure they are not overlooked by the legal system. Menominee County is the only county in the UP to have a CASA program. More than three dozen children were involved in abuse and neglect cases in Menominee county last year.
