The annual community plunge into the icy waters of the bay looks a whole lot different this year, but the mission behind it- to support a pair of local organizations- remains the same. The 11th annual Da Yooper Plunge will once again take place on New Year’s Day and requires a lot less boldness in 2021 than it typically does. Instead of diving into the frigid bay, the Plunge will take place at the River Cities Community Pool, where it’s balmy and warm. Event organizer Kasey Ermis with the RCCP says it’s one of many precautions put in place to mitigate any COVID-19 risk.
Da Yooper Plunge will be live streamed on the DAR and RCCP Facebook pages and, like usual, there are several awards to be handed out including for the most money raised for the event and the best dressed team and individual. Ermis says, in addition to pre-scheduled plunge times to remain distanced, participants this year will also have the option to take the plunge remotely wherever they may be and post it online.
All money raised during the event will benefit the RCCP and the DAR Boys and Girls Club. Registration for the 2021 Da Yooper Plunge is due by today and can be completed online at rivercitiespool.org.
