01/16/2019- After spending years restoring the Menekaunee Harbor and South Channel, it’s now time for Marinette to think about how they’ll preserve the areas for the future. City Engineer Brian Miller brought a proposal to Marinette’s Board of Public Works Tuesday to amend their current contract with engineering and surveying firm Robert E Lee to include the development of a long-term operations and maintenance plan for the habitat restoration areas. Miller says the initial recommendation to create this type of plan comes from the Wisconsin DNR, who have funded much of the Menekaunee Harbor restoration work.
The cost to develop the maintenance plan is around $6200 and will be covered by the Wisconsin DNR, with Marinette acting as a funding pass-through. Any future expenses for the maintenance and operations at Menekaunee Harbor and the South Channel will be the responsibility of the City.
