09/24/2018- It was a time for reflection Friday morning at Marinette City Hall where the American Legion Post 39 held a ceremony for POW/ MIA Recognition Day. The day of remembrance is held on the third Friday of September each year and the local American Legion marked the event with a Missing Man Table Ceremony. In his remarks, Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot said it is important to also keep in mind the families of those imprisoned during war or who remain unaccounted for.
The first POW/MIA Recognition Day was held in 1979. Statistics from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency show more than 82000 Americans that fought in wars from World War II through the Gulf Wars remain missing.
