While the long-term approach to Marinette County’s tourism promotion is still up for discussion, the immediate plan to contract with the City of Marinette to hire a shared Marketing and Tourism Director continues to move forward. Monday, the county’s Economic Development/Tourism Committee approved entering into an agreement with the City of Marinette to provide tourism and marketing services for a minimum of one year. The employee will be responsible for marketing both the county and the City of Marinette, but County Administrator John Lefebvre says how they choose to divide their time will be left up to the individual that is hired.
The Marketing and Tourism Director will be a City of Marinette employee and the county will be responsible for paying the city half of their salary and benefits. The contract was forwarded to the full county board. Following their approval, it will then head to the City for final consideration.
