12/05/2018- The clock is winding down on Marinette County’s current contract with the City of Marinette for marketing and tourism services and the reviews on that agreement are mixed. The county’s Development Committee considered a recommendation to extend the contract, which is set to expire January 31st, through December of 2019. But County Supervisor Don Pazynski says the county isn’t seeing the same benefit from the shared Marketing and Tourism Director Melissa Ebsch’s work at the city is.
County Board Chairman Mark Anderson disagrees and says he’s impressed with the progress Ebsch has made in the past several months.
While the county has briefly discussed establishing a convention and visitors’ bureau, nothing is in place yet and committee member Tom Mandli says if they don’t re-up the existing contract, the county could be without any tourism or marketing services for most of 2019.
The contract does include a provision that allows either party to opt-out with 30-days’ notice. The committee ultimately agreed to recommend the contract extension to the county board, but they are expected to take up further discussion on the development of a convention and visitors’ bureau in January.
