10/12/2018- The role of the Marinette County Tourism Alliance is being examined as the county looks at ways to draw more tourists into the area. The county’s Development Committee met this week to review a request to authorize the Tourism Alliance to draft a document identifying their purpose. County Administrator John Lefebvre says the group’s responsibilities have been whittled down since it was first created and they now function as more of an advisory committee to the Development Committee.
However, because he feels the Tourism Alliance doesn’t have much input or create an impact on the local tourism industry, Supervisor Clancy Whiting says it should be dissolved altogether.
Although the future of the group remains uncertain, the Development Committee did approve the Tourism Alliance’s request to draft a new purpose statement. The Alliance will take up that task at their meeting Wednesday.
