09/17/2018- Menominee could be dialing back the hours City Hall is open to the public. The Judicial and Legislative/ Personnel and Labor Committee considered a recommendation from City Manager Tony Graff to change City Hall operating hours from the current 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday to 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday and 8:00 to 4:00 on Fridays. He says the new structure will increase staff safety by allowing them to all arrive at and leave work at the same time. He also noted because residents rarely visit City Hall between 4:30 and 5:00 the City is spending money on hourly employees that don’t have much to do at the end of day. Committee Chair Bill Plemel says the City tried cutting back City Hall hours years ago, but too many residents felt it was an inconvenience and so they reversed the decision. However, he was open to the possibility that the plan may be better received now.
Graff says he consulted with city employees before bringing the proposal to the committee and noted that Menominee’s City Hall is the only government office in the area that is open until 5:00 PM. The committee forwarded the topic with no recommendation on to the full city council for final consideration at their meeting tonight.
