03/05/2019- More funding is needed for Menominee’s library, but just where those dollars are coming from is undecided. The City’s Judicial and Legislative/ Personnel and Labor Committee discussed creating a millage request for the Spies Public Library, but City Manager Tony Graff cautioned them against asking residents to shell out more money when the City is still grappling with how to pay for state mandated utility replacement work. He says there are still too many questions surrounding water and sewer rates, as well as what potential millage funding at the library might be used for, to put it to a public vote.
Graff says another option might be to consider consolidating the services at Spies Public Library with other libraries throughout the county and then seeking a millage from a broader source.
Ultimately, the J&L/P&L Committee took no action toward establishing language for a millage question to be placed on the ballot for Menominee’s next election.
