06/20/2019- Leaving your car parked for too long on Marinette city streets could soon cost you more- twice as much, in fact. The City’s Civic Affairs, Cemetery, Traffic, and Lights Committee examined the existing parking fine structure Monday and questioned whether the $20 charge was an effective deterrent. Parking complaints and violations are particularly common around Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Boom Landing and some committee members say they’ve heard from contractors working at the shipyard that a $20 ticket is “cheap” in comparison to the cost to park in some of the larger cities they’ve worked in. It was also agreed that $20 may no longer be sufficient to even cover the city’s costs to enforce parking limitations and process violations. The Committee has forwarded a recommendation on to the full common council to double the current ticket fines from $20 initially and $40 if not paid within 72 hours to $40 initially and $80 after 72 hours.
