05/07/2020- As Wisconsin continues to discuss pathways to safely reopen the state, Marinette County could play a big role in upping testing numbers to determine just how widespread COVID-19 is. Governor Tony Evers has announced he wants to make Wisconsin one of the leading states in the number of tests administered per capita and said he’s prepared to provide as many as 85000 COVID-19 tests per week. Under the new Badger Bounce Back plan, Marinette County Emergency Management Administrator Eric Burmeister says his department and Public Health are exploring establishing a community testing center in Marinette County where anyone can be screened for the virus.
Another arm of the Bounce Back plan is ensuring medical facilities have adequate PPE and other supplies on hand to deal with the crisis and any future spike in cases. Burmeister has been coordinating with clinics, emergency response agencies, and nursing homes across the county and says there remain a few items in short supply and high demand.
Burmeister expects to release additional details on the potential for a community testing site in the next several days. Currently the nearest location offering community COVID-19 screening for its residents is in Brown County.
