01/29/2019- While the new REC Center is officially open for business, the journey to get there wasn’t an easy one. In fact, those involved in the project say the idea for the facility dates back at least fifteen years. Resident Scott Wahl has been involved since day one and says he’s seen the concept passed through several hands and withstand a number of revisions. However, he says the end result is exactly what the community needs and feels it’s well worth the wait.
Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot says beyond being a community facility, the REC Center plays an important role in regional economic development as an impressive and enticing feature that he hopes will draw more workers into the area.
The 113000 square foot facility features a turf area and walking track, community arena, and ice arena with seating for 500. The Community REC Center is touted as the largest of its kind in northern Wisconsin.
