Menominee names its 2017 Community Service Award recipients. City Council voted Tuesday to recognize Sergeant Brian Helfert with the individual award and the Menominee Lions Club in the organization category. Mayor Jean Stegeman nominated both recipients, citing Helfert’s 35 years of service to the community and the Lions Club’s effort to supply eyeglasses and hearing aids to those who cannot afford them in her nomination applications.
The Council also approved a two-year extension of their current contract with Waste Management. The existing waste and bulk item pickup agreement will continue; however, Waste Management will now supply the city with a roll-off container at the City Garage where residents can drop off their landscaping waste. Waste Management will empty the container on an on-call basis at a cost of $80 per load.
