07/24/2020- The Michigan National Guard will be in the region this weekend assisting with a free COVID-19 community testing effort. The drive-up testing site will be open to all Michigan residents age 18 and up and is being held Saturday in the Menominee High School Parking lot from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mike Snyder, Health Officer for Public Health Delta and Menominee Counties says this community site not only gives them a better idea of how widespread the virus is in Menominee County, but it also opens up more opportunities for residents who may not have previously had access to testing.

1000 tests kits will be available and both symptomatic and asymptomatic residents can be screened for the virus. Menominee County has around 60 confirmed cases, which is the second highest count among UP counties. However, it’s significantly less than the more than 200 which have been recorded across the river in Marinette County. Snyder says there are likely multiple factors causing this.

Residents will need to present a Michigan ID at Saturday’s testing site. Similar testing has been held in over 30 other communities over the past two months and Snyder says the turnaround time for test results at this point is between 3 and 5 days.
