It’s unlikely the concrete barriers along Main Street in Marinette will be going anywhere anytime soon. Nate Millsap, Marinette Marine’s Director of Information Technology and Industrial Security provided an update on the barriers in front of the Professional Building to the city’s Public Safety and Code Enforcement Committee Monday. He says the Navy’s heightened force protection conditions have yet to be downgraded, so the barriers must remain in place. Committee member Jason Flatt pointed out the committee was last told the barriers would be removed upon the completion of the Maritime Center of Excellence, but Millsap says the new facility cannot accommodate the increased crew sizes training in Marinette, so as many as 150 sailors are still utilizing the Professional Building. The City previously granted an indefinite extension of the placement of the concrete barriers on Main Street. Millsap says he will continue to bring updates on the matter to the committee as they become available.
