01/09/2020- It doesn’t look like a request from Marinette County for the City of Marinette to vacate a portion of Ella Court will go very far. The City’s Common Council took up the matter Tuesday and heard from several residents and business owners who said they regularly utilize that passageway and closing off a portion of it would only create more congestion along the already-busy Hall Avenue. County Administrator John Lefebvre was seeking the roadway be vacated between Stephenson Street and Court Street to allow for more parking and handicapped access to the soon-to-be redesigned former law enforcement center, however, after discussion, the consensus of the council was that they were not in favor of initiating the formal process to close the roadway. Mayor Steve Genisot says the City will work with the County to explore other options for parking and accessibility.
