05/23/2019- The Menominee City Council has given the go-ahead to the Menominee Police Department to begin fundraising for a new K-9 unit. Chief Brett Bottbyl says it will take about $100,000 to cover the cost of acquiring the dog, training, and other equipment necessary for the K-9 unit, and that money will be raised through donations from the community. The M&M Area Community Foundation will act as the pass-through for the donations.
The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department has three K-9s, but two are in the north end of the county, and the other is not in service. Bottbyl says the Sheriff and Undersheriff support the Police Department’s K-9 unit plan.
