Marinette County isn’t the only one concerned about the declining number of trained medical examiners available. At their board meeting Tuesday, Menominee County commissioners discussed extending the contract with their current medical examiner, Dr. Michael Zevitz, for another three years. The contract is set to expire March 25th. Commissioners noted one factor in the dwindling candidate pool is that many medical organizations discourage their doctors from pursuing secondary employment, so that prevents them from taking on the role of medical examiner in addition to their primary practice. Interim County Administrator Sherry DuPont says she will speak with Dr. Zevitz about the proposed contract extension. Menominee County is required to either hire its own medical examiner or contract those services out.
