03/25/2020- Proposed land acquisition by Marinette County could lead to new recreational opportunities, but the idea is receiving mixed reviews from County Supervisors. The County has the opportunity to purchase about 123 acres of land in the Town of Peshtigo from the Wisconsin DOT for $80000. County Administrator John Lefebvre says the property, located adjacent to the county-owned wayside along Highway 41, could aid in creating a corridor between the Cities of Marinette and Peshtigo for recreational trail development, but Supervisor Don Pazynski says the majority of that acreage is low-lying wetlands and not worth the investment.
The land was appraised at $130000 Last week the County’s Administrative Committee recommended transferring the $80000 for the purchase from their Contingency Fund. That will still need to be approved by the full County Board at their meeting next week.
