Economic development is a top priority for Marinette County officials, but some think the county ought to take a broader approach to the issue. County Administrator Jon Lefebvre addressed the Development Committee this week saying the county needs to create a plan that harbors business growth. He says there are businesses in Marinette County that would be interested in expanding their operations, but are hesitant to do so largely because of a lack of employees to fill new positions. Lefebvre suggested a regional plan involving Marinette, Menominee, Dickinson, and Oconto Counties, as well as area non-profits, would have more success in attracting and retaining workers and industry than each county might see individually. The Development Committee supported Lefebvre’s request to allow him to begin soliciting interest from officials in other counties and organizations. Lefebvre will report back to the committee on the issue in the next 30 to 60 days.
