Some Marinette County officials are taking steps to ensure internet access remains affordable, especially for customers in rural and under-served areas. Monday, the county’s Economic Development/Tourism Committee approved a resolution urging legislators to use the Congressional Review Act to reverse the FCC action take to repeal the 2015 Open Internet Order. While it has been argued that ending net neutrality could lead to more investment and more competition in the internet provider market, committee member Tom Mandli believes it would only cause prices to skyrocket.
The committee unanimously approved the resolution and forwarded it on the full county board for consideration. If passed there, the resolution will be sent out to state and federal legislators.
