As Congress debates further COVID-19 relief initiatives, including the potential for another stimulus check, the IRS and a coalition of state tax agencies and tax industry officials are warning individuals not to respond to a text message about a $1200 stimulus check. The link that often accompanies the message is a fake phishing URL that directs people to an imitation IRS site and then asks for their personal and financial details, including bank account information.
