01/31/2019- A third-generation Crivitz business is a total loss after a massive Tuesday night fire. A total of eleven agencies responded to the blaze that was called in at Crivitz Lumber and Rental around 7:00 PM. Crivitz Fire Chief Luke Deschane estimates the building is around 100 years old and says while there was concern about the fire spreading to the lumber storage area and surrounding structures, crews were able to keep it contained to the office and showroom building. Complicating their efforts were the frigid temps as wind chills dipped to nearly fifty below zero. Deschane says the Crivitz community was quick to come to the aid of the firefighters, who remained on scene for more than 12 hours.
93 WPS customers lost power for about three hours during the fire and the Crivitz Village Hall was opened as a shelter for those residents. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
