11/28/2018- It’s a yearly tradition for the Wisconsin DNR to give to those in need. The agency is once again hosting their Deer Donation Program, which allows hunters to donate their deer to fill the freezers at food pantries across the state. Pelkin’s Smokey Meat Market in Crivitz is one of Marinette County’s participating meat processors and Kevin Goldberg, meat cutter at Pelkin’s, says the store jumped on the chance to take part in the DNR’s effort.
Pelkin’s has already received more than two dozen deer donations from Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer season. Goldberg says it’s an easy and free process for hunters and all of the meat stays local.
Pelkin’s Smokey Meat Market accepts donations during any active Wisconsin deer season. You can find a full list of participating meat processors on the Wisconsin DNR website.
