11/20/2018- Often when people think of war memorials, they picture monuments honoring those that died in conflicts decades in the past, but the local Disabled American Veterans group has plans to recognize the servicemen and women who lost their lives in much more recent history. Dave Thompson, Commander of the Menominee DAV presented a proposal to the Menominee City Council Monday to bring the Remember the Fallen moving wall display to the city’s Veterans’ Memorial Park next summer. Thompson says the memorial features fifteen tribute towers bearing the names and pictures of military members killed in action or stateside since 9-11.
The DAV says they’ll cover the entire cost of the four-day event. Thompson says they’re also relying heavily on volunteer forces for things like guest information and security. He’s hopeful the display will include more than just the tribute towers, but also offer visitors a chance to talk about their own post- 9-11 experiences they may still be struggling with.
Thompson’s proposal was referred to Menominee’s Parks and Recreation/Buildings and Grounds Committee for consideration. The tentative dates for the Remember the Fallen memorial’s stop in Menominee are August 23rd through the 26th.
